Marlee Matlin plays a deaf photographer whose fractured personal life becomes the frame for a series of arguments about quantum physics, perception, and consciousness. Her scripted story cuts against interviews with physicists, chemists, and other researchers, including several tied to the Ramtha's School of Enlightenment, who claim that quantum mechanics supports the idea that thought and belief shape physical reality. The film stages this argument visually: computer-animated sequences show neurons firing and water molecules supposedly rearranging in response to emotion, based on Masaru Emoto's crystal photography experiments. Matlin's character wanders through her own wedding reception watching versions of herself argue with each other, a device the film uses to dramatize competing internal voices about addiction, relationships, and free will. Physicists on screen make claims about observer effects and probability that mainstream scientists have since disputed at length, and the film never flags that dispute for the viewer. Whatever its science, the film is a genuine hybrid production, part lecture, part narrative, built to make an argument for a New Age view of the physical world.
