Ancient Egypt's racial identity is the argument at the center of this film, which makes the case that the civilization along the Nile was built and ruled by Black Africans, not the light-skinned population later depictions assume. Black scholars, historians, and archaeologists carry the argument on camera, tracing the claim from the early dynasties through the rise and fall of the Pharaohs and pointing to what they describe as centuries of deliberate erasure by white scholarship. The film also follows the thread outward from Egypt to the rest of the continent, arguing that the connections between Egyptian civilization and other African cultures have been minimized or ignored in standard histories. It frames its account as a corrective, setting the interviewees' evidence and interpretation directly against the conventional academic narrative rather than simply summarizing both sides. The result plays as advocacy history: a specific thesis about African identity and achievement, argued through expert testimony rather than a neutral survey of the archaeological record.
