Matthew Heimbach is a senior history major at Towson University when he forms the White Student Union, a group advocating for what he calls "persons of European heritage." VICE travels to the Baltimore suburb to sit with Heimbach and the members conducting his night patrols, organized to watch for supposed "black predators" after an incident Heimbach cited on the group's website involving a man exposing himself to a couple in a parking garage. The film also puts a camera in front of the African American students and campus activists who want Heimbach removed or silenced, and the two sides do not talk past each other so much as shout directly at each other in hallways and open forums. Heimbach's own words carry most of the argument, including his claim that "white Southern men" have a duty to defend their communities when police and the state fail to. The film stays close to campus, letting the confrontations between Heimbach's group and its opponents play out with minimal narration.
