Operation Bernhard was one of history's largest counterfeiting operations: an SS scheme to flood Britain with forged pound notes and collapse its economy. This film traces how the Nazis pulled Jewish prisoners, many of them skilled printers, engravers, and bankers, out of concentration camps and forced them to work in a secret unit producing bills so accurate that the Bank of England itself struggled to tell them apart from genuine currency. Interviews and archival material lay out how the counterfeit notes were meant to be dropped over Britain or used to fund espionage abroad, and how the plan shifted as the war turned against Germany. The film also follows what happened to the forgers themselves, prisoners whose expertise kept them alive even as the operation's usefulness to the Reich collapsed. Drawing on historical documents and expert testimony, it reconstructs a scheme that blurred the line between economic warfare and slave labor, and asks what became of the fake fortune once the war ended.
