Yoga teachers across the United States talk about why they got on the mat and why they stayed there. Filmmaker Jonathan Pears spent six months traveling to shoot the film, catching practitioners in studios and informal settings rather than staged interviews alone. Dice Iida-Klein, Kathryn Budig, Briohny Smyth, and Tiffany Cruikshank are among the yogis who speak on camera, each describing a different route into the practice, from injury and burnout to a search for something steadier than exercise. The film keeps returning to one plain question: what keeps people coming back to a practice that asks for discipline without promising quick results? Answers vary from person to person, but they circle around the same themes of physical change giving way to mental and emotional change over time. There is little narration pushing an argument; the film mostly lets its subjects talk through their own histories with the practice, postures included, and lets the range of answers stand as the point rather than resolving into one tidy conclusion.
