Rio de Janeiro carries a reputation built on carnival, beaches, and crowded streets, but this film follows the wildlife living inside and around those same eight million residents. Forest patches, hillsides, and waterways inside the city limits turn out to hold monkeys, birds, and other species that most locals rarely stop to notice, and the film treats Rio's claim to being one of the greenest metropolises on Earth as something to actually verify with footage rather than assert. The carnival itself becomes a way into the argument: the film sets its color and noise against the quieter rhythms of the ecosystems the city was built on top of, suggesting the two are more connected than they look. Sequences move between street-level human activity and the animals sharing the same hillsides and parks, without much narration standing between the camera and what it finds. It stays a portrait rather than an argument, watching a dense urban center and its resident wildlife occupy the same ground.
