Across Nigeria's Niger Delta, an estimated 15,000 children have been denounced by Christian pastors as witches and wizards, then beaten, poisoned, or abandoned by their own families. The film follows Gary Foxcroft, an Englishman whose charity Stepping Stones works to care for more than 150 accused children, funding shelter and reunification efforts where local authorities offer little protection. Individual cases carry the weight of the story: Ellin, two and a half years old, found at the roadside with her body scarred by boiling water, and Nwanakwo, eight, who died after acid was poured over him for being labeled a wizard. Narrated by Sophie Okonedo, the film traces how kindoki, a Congolese concept of spiritual affliction, and Christian exorcism practices have merged and mutated in some churches into a pretext for scapegoating children during famine, disease, or other family catastrophe. It examines the pastors who profit from these accusations alongside the aid workers trying to undo the damage, without offering a clean resolution to either.
