In the heart of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a region marred by unspeakable atrocities and a staggering prevalence of sexual violence against women, there exists a beacon of hope known as the “Field of Hope.” This documentary, aptly titled “Witness – Field Of Hope,” introduces us to the extraordinary journey of Masika, a courageous survivor of rape, who has dedicated her life to healing the wounds of countless women and children scarred by conflict.

Eastern Congo is a place where every passing hour brings with it the harrowing statistic of approximately 48 women falling victim to rape. This staggering number equates to around 1,100 rapes each day, leaving behind shattered lives with bleak prospects. However, within this grim landscape, Masika emerges as a remarkable force of change. Having experienced the horrors of sexual violence herself, she embarked on a mission to provide solace, counseling, and an avenue for economic independence to fellow survivors.

The heart of Masika’s transformative initiative lies in the Field of Hope, a place where survivors of rape come together to sow, nurture, and harvest crops, not just as a means of income but as a source of purpose and resilience. In a society where survivors and their children are often subjected to further discrimination and abuse, Masika’s compassion knows no bounds. She continues to extend her shelter and support to those in dire need, offering them a chance to regain their dignity, rebuild their lives, and assert their independence. “Field of Hope” sheds light on this remarkable oasis of strength and determination, where survivors emerge as victors in the face of unimaginable adversity.
