Zanyar grew up in Sweden, sent there at age five while his father Taher stayed behind fighting as a Kurdish rebel in Kurdistan. Now approaching fatherhood himself, Zanyar sits down with Taher, who drives a taxi in Stockholm and has spent decades avoiding the subject, to ask why he was sent away and what his father actually did in those years. The camera stays close through kitchen-table conversations as Taher's answers come slowly and incompletely at first, then open into an account of guerrilla life, loss, and the choice to send his young son out of the country rather than risk him growing up in it. Zanyar's own uncertainty about becoming a father drives the questioning, less an interrogation than a son trying to place his own life against his father's before a third generation arrives. The film stays inside this one household, using no reenactments or archival war footage, just two men working through a history that shaped both of them and was never spoken about until now.
