In the California desert, Tonya Littlewolf runs a sanctuary for fourteen wolves rescued from breeders who could no longer keep or sell them. The film follows her daily routine of feeding, cleaning enclosures, and handling animals that are neither fully wild nor domesticated, a middle status that makes them illegal or unwanted in most places. Interviews with Littlewolf explain how each wolf arrived, from failed private ownership situations to breeding operations that produced more animals than anyone could place, and what it costs in money and physical risk to keep them fed and contained. The camera stays close to the wolves themselves, watching them pace, interact, and respond to her presence, showing the difference between a trained handler's approach and casual human contact. The sanctuary operates on a shoestring, and the film treats that precariousness as part of the story: what happens to an animal nobody quite knows how to classify once the person willing to look after it can no longer manage.
