In 1965, a group of young women became the first to complete an Outward Bound survival course, a month-long wilderness program built to test physical and mental limits through rock climbing, long hikes, and isolation in the woods. The film follows their story through archival footage and interviews, showing how the experience pushed them past what they, and the culture around them, assumed women could endure. Forty-seven years later, the same women reunite to look back on the course, and their conversation forms the spine of the film, with recollections that range from fond to unexpectedly candid. What emerges is less a survival story than a account of how the course reshaped their sense of their own capability, at a moment just before the women's movement would make that question a public one.
