Over 13 million people were taken from across occupied Europe and forced into labor for the Third Reich, a system so vast it touched nearly every German factory, farm, and household, yet rarely makes it into standard accounts of the war. This film reconstructs that machine through survivor testimony and archival material, including a Jewish doctor who treated prisoners at the Westerbork transit camp and a Polish farm laborer sent to work German fields. The granddaughter of a Nazi official adds a different angle, describing how forced labor was normalized inside ordinary German households and businesses. The film traces how conscripted workers were sorted, transported, and worked into the war economy, and how postwar Germany largely avoided reckoning with the scale of it. Interviews carry most of the film, backed by period photographs and footage, and the result is less a single dramatic story than an account of how deeply exploitation was woven into daily life on the home front.
