It then follows Canada's seasonal ice roads, built each winter across frozen rivers and lakes up to the Arctic Ocean, where truckers Vlad and Hugh and aboriginal Canadian Scott haul a year's worth of supplies to remote villages like God's Lake before the thaw cuts them off, driving through temperatures that drop below minus 60 Celsius. The final stretch shifts tone entirely for the Adriatic Highway, the coastal road built under Tito in the 1950s and 60s that winds from Slovenia through Croatia and Montenegro with a short pass through Bosnia and Herzegovina. Interviews with drivers and locals anchor each segment, and the camera stays close to the trucks and the terrain rather than the scenery alone. The throughline is what a road demands of the people who have no choice but to use it.
