Mlima Kitonga, an eight-kilometer stretch of Tanzania's A7 highway, drops through mountains with grades steep enough and drop-offs deep enough that trucks and overloaded tankers routinely gamble on blind passing maneuvers. The film follows the people whose lives run on this road: bus driver Alberto, who takes the wheel every day knowing not every vehicle that starts the climb finishes it, and driving instructor Mnyama, who trains a new generation of Tanzanian drivers hoping the licence will mean steadier work than farming. With the country's average age at seventeen and its population expanding fast, the road doubles as an economic artery, carrying onion farmers to market and keeping roadside truck garages in business. Cameras ride in the cabs through switchbacks and near-misses and sit with families for whom the highway is both danger and livelihood. It is one episode in the World's Most Dangerous Roads series, and it treats Mlima Kitonga less as a spectacle of peril than as the daily bargain an entire region makes to keep moving.
