Iceland has a population under 350,000, yet it has produced some of the most dominant champions in the history of the World's Strongest Man competition. This film looks at why, following the country's strongman tradition from its roots in old sagas of lifting stones to prove manhood, through to the training grounds and gyms where the current generation trains for international competition. Interviews with competitors and coaches lay out the physical demands of events like the Atlas Stones and the log press, and the film considers what it is about Icelandic culture, diet, and history that keeps producing men who can compete with far larger nations. Archival competition footage sits alongside present-day training scenes, giving a sense of both the sport's history and the day-to-day grind behind it. The result is a portrait of a small country with an outsized claim on one of the world's most punishing athletic titles.
