D-Lab: Water, Climate Change, and Health
MIT's Edgerton Center offers this project-based course on the links between water, climate change, and human health. Students work with peers and outside experts on mitigation and adaptation strategies for water systems under climate stress, focusing on regions where water-borne illness, malnutrition, and vector-borne disease are leading causes of death and sickness. The course is transdisciplinary, mixing engineering, public health, and climate science, and culminates in a term project that asks students to communicate climate science to a general audience. Materials come from MIT OpenCourseWare and include course readings and project guidelines used in the actual MIT classroom. The course suits students interested in applied, hands-on approaches to global health and environmental problems rather than pure lecture-based instruction.
