Leonard White's Duke course delivers a first-year medical school neuroscience curriculum online, across 18 modules and 7 weeks at roughly 10 hours a week. It covers neuroanatomy (surface and internal anatomy of the brain and spinal cord, cranial nerves), neural signaling (action potentials, synaptic transmission, long-term potentiation), the sensory systems (vision, hearing, balance, smell, taste, pain), motor control (lower and upper motor neurons, the basal ganglia, the cerebellum), brain development across the lifespan, and finally cognition, sleep, emotion, and addiction. Clinical case studies appear throughout, and the final exam is built entirely around cases rather than isolated facts. White states explicitly that the course matches the scope and rigor of Duke's on-campus medical school version, minus hands-on brain dissection labs. It is free to audit; the certificate track is the only paid component.
