A set of practical video sessions from MIT OpenCourseWare teaches R, the free statistical computing environment, alongside geographic information systems. Lessons cover navigating the R interface, importing and managing different data formats, running and interpreting linear models, and using GIS tools directly within R. The material was originally developed to support MIT's Terrestrial Carbon Cycle and Ecosystem Ecology course but stands on its own as a practical introduction for anyone wanting hands-on R and GIS skills. Sessions are video-based and focus on concrete workflows rather than theory, walking through real data manipulation and spatial analysis tasks. No prior R experience is assumed. As with other MIT OpenCourseWare offerings, the videos and materials are free to access, with no certificate or enrollment required.
