Spain's history, architecture, art, literature, and film form the material for this MIT OpenCourseWare course, which asks whether a distinct Spanish way of seeing the world emerges from these works, one different from other Western European traditions. Lessons move through periods and regions of Spain, pairing readings on painters, writers, and filmmakers with discussion of the historical events that shaped them, from medieval Iberia through the twentieth century. The course includes a syllabus, reading lists, and assignments drawn from MIT's actual classroom materials, letting a self-study learner follow the same sequence of topics and source texts used on campus. No enrollment or certificate is offered since this is a self-paced OpenCourseWare publication, but all course materials are free to access and download.
