Playwrights' Workshop
MIT's Playwrights' Workshop guides students through sustained development of original play scripts across a semester of weekly workshop sessions. Writers bring pages for group critique, meet one on one with the instructor for individual consultation, and collaborate directly with student actors, directors, and designers who help stage readings of works in progress. The course materials on MIT OpenCourseWare include the syllabus, assignment structure, and grading criteria used in the class. Scripts that reach a finished state become eligible for the Playwrights' Workshop Production, giving writers a concrete endpoint and an audience beyond the classroom.
