Programming for Everybody (Getting Started with Python)
Charles Severance, known to students as Dr. Chuck, opens the Python for Everybody Specialization at the University of Michigan by teaching absolute beginners how computers run programs and how to write their first lines of Python. Seven modules move from installing Python and writing a Hello World program through variables and expressions, conditional code, functions, and loops, following chapters one through five of Severance's own textbook, Python for Everybody. Short lecture videos sit alongside quizzes and hands-on assignments like a Pay Calculator and an Overtime Pay Calculator, and Guido van Rossum himself appears in a welcome video as Python's creator. The course assumes no math beyond arithmetic and no prior computer experience, and every video and assignment is free to complete without paying for the certificate. Finishing it prepares you for the specialization's more advanced Python courses on data structures and databases.
