MIT OpenCourseWare offers this course on how law addresses technology-related problems in the workplace. It covers the National Labor Relations Act, the Occupational Safety and Health Act, the Toxic Substances Control Act, state worker's compensation systems, and lawsuits brought by workers in the courts. The course also examines occupational health and safety problems, collective bargaining as a tool for shaping workplace technology, job alienation, productivity, and the organization of work. Materials come from MIT's Institute for Data, Systems, and Society and include the syllabus and readings used in the original class. Some background in environmental studies, public health, or law is recommended before taking it. As with other MIT OpenCourseWare offerings, all materials are free to access and there is no certificate.
