Unpacking "Leader" and "Connected"
In this session from Yale's Connected Leadership course, instructor Peter Boyd opens the program by examining the two words at its center: leader and connected. He walks through why conventional definitions of leadership often fall short, and invites viewers to build a personal definition that feels authentic rather than borrowed. The lecture frames connection, to colleagues, teams, and one's own values, as the foundation the rest of the course builds on. Boyd draws on his own experience translating leadership theory into daily practice, setting expectations for the frameworks and exercises that follow in later lessons. It functions as an orientation lecture, establishing vocabulary and mindset before the course moves into concrete tools for time, teams, and communication.
