Workshop I
This is the first course in MIT's two part Comparative Media Studies workshop sequence, required for entering graduate students in the program. It centers on a hands on creative project that students develop and build across the term, pairing that studio work with the department's theoretical coursework. Along the way students pick up the technical skills needed to execute a media project, from planning and prototyping through production, while also getting critique and mentorship intended to sharpen both craft and thinking. Materials come from MIT OpenCourseWare and include the syllabus and assignment structure used in the actual graduate seminar, licensed for reuse under Creative Commons. There is no certificate attached, since OpenCourseWare publishes course materials rather than running a graded, credentialed version of the class, but the assignments and project framework are the same ones MIT students work through.
