Chinese I (Streamlined)
This MIT OpenCourseWare course targets students who grew up speaking Chinese at home but never learned to read or write it fully, pairing basic conversational fluency with formal literacy training. Conducted entirely in Chinese, the class builds standard everyday usage while teaching reading in both full and simplified characters and developing writing skills from the ground up. It forms the first half of a two-course elementary sequence, continuing in a companion spring course. Materials on the OCW site include the syllabus, readings, and assignments used in the MIT classroom, letting self-learners follow the same structured path without enrollment or fees. No certificate is offered, consistent with OCW's model of publishing course materials rather than running graded online sections.
