Japanese IV
Japanese IV continues MIT's introductory Japanese sequence, covering Lessons 19 through 23 of Genki: An Integrated Course in Elementary Japanese II. The course builds practical communication skills, focusing on choosing appropriate speech levels for different social settings, from casual conversation to more formal writing. Materials include lesson-based readings, grammar exercises, vocabulary and kanji practice, and speaking activities drawn directly from the Genki textbook framework. As part of MIT OpenCourseWare, the course provides syllabus materials, assignments, and structured lesson plans for self-study, free to access under a Creative Commons license. It suits learners who have completed earlier Japanese courses in the sequence and want to keep building toward functional fluency in everyday and socially varied Japanese communication.
