MIT Critical Data, a consortium of clinicians, computer scientists, and engineers, built this introductory survey of data science tools applied to healthcare. The course covers core principles of data science, methods for analyzing electronic health records, and the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in clinical and public health settings. It is aimed at a mixed audience of front-line clinicians, public health practitioners, computer scientists, and social scientists, reflecting the multidisciplinary approach MIT Critical Data promotes for tackling interconnected global health problems. The course sits in MIT's Open Learning Library, so all materials, readings, and exercises are free to view and use, with optional enrollment for tracking progress. No certificate or paid track is mentioned. The emphasis throughout is practical: using digital data captured during routine care to better understand health and disease.
