Expository Writing for Bilingual Students
MIT OpenCourseWare offers this writing course built for bilingual students preparing for the essays, term papers, reports, and exams expected across an MIT curriculum. Sessions work through sample expository texts to analyze structure and argument, alongside vocabulary-building exercises and targeted grammar and mechanics practice. The focus stays on producing clear, accurate, and increasingly sophisticated prose rather than on literary analysis. Materials include the course's reading samples, writing assignments, and instructor guidance on common grammatical trouble spots, all available free through MIT OCW under a Creative Commons license. There is no certificate, but the full set of assignments and readings used in the original MIT classroom is provided for self-study.
