Financial Accounting
A six-week MIT Sloan course covering the basic concepts of corporate financial accounting and reporting. The material approaches accounting from the perspective of the user, especially senior managers making investment decisions, assessing corporate and managerial performance, and valuing firms, rather than from the perspective of the accountant preparing the statements. Coursework moves through economics-based analysis of financial statements, showing how reported numbers translate into judgments about a company's health and prospects. Originally taught to MIT Sloan Fellows in Innovation and Global Leadership, the course is published through MIT OpenCourseWare with lecture materials and assignments available at no cost under a Creative Commons license, letting anyone work through the same core curriculum used in the Sloan classroom.
