This MIT Sloan School of Management course examines how governments and social institutions shape competitive outcomes for firms operating across different national settings. Students work through cases and analytical readings covering companies and industries in both developed and emerging markets, building conceptual tools to assess the opportunities and risks of global competition. Topics include how public policy, regulation, and domestic institutions interact with corporate strategy, and how firms adapt when competing across borders with varying political and economic systems. Materials come from MIT OpenCourseWare and include the syllabus, readings, and case assignments used in the original Sloan classroom course. As with other OCW offerings, there are no graded assignments or certificate, but the full set of course materials is freely available for self-study.
