Developmental Entrepreneurship
MIT's Sloan School and Media Lab course on building and scaling businesses in developing regions. Case studies drawn from South Asia, Africa, Latin America, Eastern Europe, and China examine both successful ventures and failures, covering how entrepreneurs deploy and diffuse products and services under resource constraints and weak infrastructure. The course also looks at business models built around technologies developed in MIT labs, asking how such innovations move from prototype to market in low-income settings. Materials include the syllabus, case assignments, and readings from MIT OpenCourseWare, and the course is aimed at students who already have some grounding in business or economics. There is no instructor interaction or certificate, since MIT OCW simply publishes the course materials for self-study.
