Managing Nuclear Technology
MIT OpenCourseWare offers this course on the economics and policy of nuclear power and the electric utility industry. Lessons cover engineering economics techniques such as discounted cash flow analysis, applied to real decisions in the nuclear fuel cycle, waste management, and weapons proliferation risks. The course also addresses deregulation and restructuring in the electric power industry, connecting technical fuel cycle choices to public policy tradeoffs. Materials include lecture notes and problem sets drawn from MIT's Nuclear Science and Engineering and Engineering Systems Division curricula. The course is aimed at students who want to analyze private and public policy alternatives for nuclear technology using quantitative economic tools rather than purely technical or advocacy framing. As with other MIT OCW offerings, all materials are free to access under a Creative Commons license, with no certificate offered.
