MIT's HST.947 pairs the lectures and recitations of MIT's core Artificial Intelligence course (6.034) with a weekly discussion session applying AI methods to medical problems: diagnosis, therapy selection, and learning from patient databases. Students complete the same homework assignments as 6.034 plus additional medical-specific readings and papers that connect algorithms like rule-based reasoning, Bayesian inference, and machine learning to clinical decision-making. The course is aimed at students who already have some AI background and want to see how techniques such as search, knowledge representation, and statistical learning get applied to real medical data and monitoring systems. Materials are published through MIT OpenCourseWare and include syllabus, assignments, and readings, free to access with no certificate offered. It suits students in health sciences or computer science who want a technical grounding in how AI methods have been used in clinical settings.
