MIT OpenCourseWare's Medical Computing examines how automation and genomic data are reshaping clinical medicine. The course covers the computational needs of clinical practice, reviewing systems and approaches already used to support diagnosis, record-keeping, and treatment, and looking ahead to emerging technologies in medical informatics. Materials include lecture notes and readings covering topics such as clinical decision support, electronic health records, and genomic data processing, drawing on case studies from hospital systems and research labs. The course is offered by MIT's Health Sciences and Technology division jointly with Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, reflecting its cross-disciplinary approach to medicine and computation. As with other MIT OpenCourseWare offerings, all materials are free to access, with no certificate offered. It suits students with a technical background who want to understand how computing infrastructure supports modern clinical practice.
