MIT OpenCourseWare offers this survey of the neural and cognitive processes behind attention, vision, language, motor control, navigation, and memory. The course covers basic neuroanatomy, functional imaging techniques, and behavioral measures used to study cognition, and examines how researchers draw inferences about brain function from these methods. Case evidence comes from patients with Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, Balint's syndrome, amnesia, and focal stroke lesions, compared against data from neurologically normal participants. Materials include lecture notes and readings drawn from MIT's Brain and Cognitive Sciences curriculum, freely available for self-study. There is no instructor interaction or certificate, consistent with MIT OCW's open courseware model, but the full syllabus and course materials are provided for independent learners.
