MIT's seminar series for biomedical engineering graduate students builds professional skills through a rotating set of topics: medical ethics, responsible conduct of research, written and oral technical communication, and translational issues in moving research to clinical practice. Each semester cycles through a different focus, so the series repeats over a student's degree with fresh material each time. Sessions mix guest lectures from practicing researchers and clinicians with case studies, small group discussions, and role-playing simulations that put students in scenarios like defending a research decision or presenting findings to a non-specialist audience. The course is offered through MIT OpenCourseWare, which provides syllabi, session materials, and assignment descriptions for self study. There are no graded assignments for outside learners and no certificate, but the structure mirrors what MIT's own biomedical engineering students work through.
