Where our sense of right and wrong comes from, taught by Yale psychologist Paul Bloom through the research on kindness, cruelty, disgust, and moral disagreement. Seven modules move from the reason-versus-emotion debate and the trolley problem through the moral life of babies, the roots of empathy and its limits, the psychology of racial and ethnic bias, and how conservatives and liberals differ in what they treat as sacred. A guest module with Laurie Santos covers the evolution of morality, and the course closes on free will and whether we can be moral agents if our choices are determined by brain, genes, and situation. Videos, readings, and six graded quizzes are free through Coursera's Full Course, No Certificate audit track. Bloom draws on his own research on infant morality throughout.
