MIT OpenCourseWare's Social Psychology course looks at how individual thoughts, feelings, and actions are shaped by, and in turn shape, the groups people belong to. Topics include interpersonal attraction, conformity, group decision-making, prejudice, and how beliefs and values spread through small and large social units. The course materials come from MIT's Brain and Cognitive Sciences department and combine lecture notes with demonstrations designed to be run in class, giving a sense of how the concepts are tested experimentally rather than just described. Students work through homework assignments and take part in small study groups, applying theories of social influence to real interpersonal situations rather than treating them abstractly. As with all MIT OpenCourseWare offerings, the materials are free to access, there is no instructor interaction or grading, and no certificate is issued. What is here is a genuine syllabus worth of lecture content and assignments, suitable for anyone wanting a structured, university-level introduction to how social context shapes behavior.
