George Everly Jr. teaches Johns Hopkins' RAPID model for supporting people through an emergency: Reflective listening, Assessment of needs, Prioritization, Intervention, and Disposition. The 5 modules run about 6 hours total and combine short lectures with simulated vignettes showing the model applied to fires, accidents, and violent crime, developed in collaboration with the Johns Hopkins Open Education Lab. Learners practice differentiating benign crisis reactions from ones needing referral to further mental health support, and a closing module on self-care addresses the toll of doing this work. Everly's course notes upfront that completing it does not certify you to render psychological first aid professionally; it is a concepts-and-practice introduction, not full crisis training. Over 600,000 people have enrolled, and the full course is free to audit without the paid certificate.
