A graduate seminar from MIT OpenCourseWare on regional economic theory and socioeconomic impact assessment. The course covers input-output accounting, methods for adjusting and estimating regional input-output tables, and the links between national and regional economic structures. Students work with alternative impact assessment models on microcomputers, using examples drawn from the Boston area and other US cities and regions, along with comparative material on how similar models are applied in other countries. Discussion topics include theoretical modeling issues, the relationship between economic theory and policy, and newer approaches to analyzing regional development. Materials include the syllabus, readings, and assignments as published by MIT, free to access with no certificate offered through OCW.
