A structured genetics course adapted from MIT's undergraduate 7.03 Genetics, offered through MITx by MIT's Department of Biology as a three-part self-paced series. It covers the structure and function of genes, chromosomes, and genomes, and how recombination, mutation, and selection generate biological variation. Later units apply population genetics and modern experimental methods to study gene regulation, protein function, and inherited disease in humans and other organisms. Materials include problem sets and assessments modeled on the MIT campus course. The course is free to audit through MITx Online, with a certificate available for a fee. It suits students who want a rigorous, research-grounded introduction to molecular and classical genetics rather than a survey overview.
