MIT OpenCourseWare offers this course on how neuroscience methods illuminate cognitive development in infants and children. Lecture topics and readings draw on research into face recognition, language acquisition, executive function, object representation, number cognition and theory of mind, tracing how these abilities emerge and change across early development. Case studies pull from primary research papers, letting students see how findings from brain imaging and behavioral experiments are used to build developmental theories. Materials include a syllabus, readings list and lecture outlines as posted by MIT's Brain and Cognitive Sciences department. As with other MIT OCW offerings, the course is free to access with no certificate offered, and is best suited to students who already have some background in cognitive science or neuroscience, given its advanced level and reliance on primary literature.
