Separation Processes for Biochemical Products
MIT OpenCourseWare offers this chemical engineering course on recovering products from biological processes. It covers membrane filtration, chromatography, centrifugation, cell disruption, extraction, and the design of separation processes used in biotechnology manufacturing. Materials come from an MIT course last taught in Spring 1999 and later adapted for the MIT Technology and Development Program at the Malaysia University of Science and Technology and for MIT's Professional Institute. The site provides lecture notes and problem sets covering the physical and chemical principles behind separating and purifying biological products at industrial scale. There is no certificate or instructor interaction, just the open archive of course materials, suited to students or engineers who want a self-directed technical grounding in bioseparation methods.
