MIT Sloan's 15.012 uses case studies to examine the macroeconomic environment firms operate within. The first half builds core tools of macroeconomic management: monetary policy, fiscal policy, and exchange rate policy, applied to recent emerging market and financial crises, their causes, and how policymakers might prevent recurrence. The second half turns to economic development strategy, covering growth theory, the role of public debt and foreign aid, and the effects of relying on natural resource wealth. Materials come from MIT OpenCourseWare and include the syllabus, case studies, and assignments used in the Sloan School of Management classroom. There is no instructor interaction or certificate, but all course materials are free to access and use under MIT's open license. Suited to students who already have grounding in economics and want to see policy tools applied to real crises and development questions.
