Architectural Design, Level III: A Student Center for MIT
An MIT OpenCourseWare architecture studio in which students design a gathering space for the MIT campus. The course frames the project around social, programmatic, tectonic, and phenomenological questions: how a building can serve as a refuge from academic life while still organizing group events and everyday socializing. Materials include studio assignments, design briefs, and examples of student project work showing how the brief evolved from site analysis to built-form proposals. The course pushes students to treat architecture as a way of shaping experience and a sense of place rather than simply solving a program, with an explicit aim of designing spaces that inspire rather than impose. As with other MIT OCW studio courses, there are no video lectures; the record is the sequence of assignments and student output, useful for anyone studying architectural design pedagogy or advanced studio methodology.
