MIT's second undergraduate architecture design studio uses nano-scale machines and phenomena as a lens for teaching design logic, representation, and development. Students work through exercises that explore multiple meanings of the word machine, translating conceptual strategies into design propositions using both digital modeling and analog techniques like drawing and physical models. The course covers describing form and space at unfamiliar scales, building skills in architectural representation before students move to larger-scale design problems. Materials include studio assignments, project briefs, and design exercises from MIT's architecture curriculum, published through MIT OpenCourseWare. No certificate is offered, but all course materials are free to access and use under a Creative Commons license.
