Chinese II (Streamlined)
An elementary-level Mandarin course from MIT OpenCourseWare, designed for heritage speakers who grew up in Chinese-speaking households and can already converse but need to build literacy. Conducted entirely in Chinese, the course continues from Chinese I (Streamlined) and focuses on standard usage, reading in both traditional and simplified characters, and writing practice. Materials on OCW include the syllabus, assignments, and readings used in MIT's classroom sections, which are normally capped at 16 students. The course does not offer a certificate or auditing through MIT itself, but the OpenCourseWare materials are freely published online for self-study. It suits learners with existing spoken fluency who want a structured path toward reading and writing competence rather than beginners starting from scratch.
