Chinese IV (Regular)
This MIT OpenCourseWare course completes a four-term intermediate Mandarin sequence begun in Chinese III. Students build toward fluent spoken Chinese on everyday topics and literacy in roughly 750 characters, equivalent to about 1200 common words, in both traditional and simplified forms. Coursework includes reading practice in simple standard written Chinese and producing short spoken and written compositions. Lessons also examine how cultural differences shape and are shaped by linguistic practice, tying grammar and vocabulary study to real communicative situations. Materials come from MIT's Global Studies and Languages program and include the syllabus and course materials typical of MIT OCW language offerings, free to access online with no certificate attached.
