An advanced Mandarin course from MIT OpenCourseWare, continuing the sequence from Chinese V. Conducted entirely in Mandarin, it builds conversational, reading, and writing skills through traditional textbook work combined with student-driven exploration of Chinese speaking societies, drawing on human, literary, and electronic resources at MIT and in the Boston area. Sessions cover Chinese customs, history, and social psychology alongside language mechanics, using reading, discussion, composition, network research, and conversational practice to tie language study to cultural content. The course includes MIT's published syllabus and materials under an open license, free to access, with no certificate offered through OpenCourseWare. Suited to students who have completed prior levels in the sequence and want to move toward fluency while examining Chinese society in depth.
