Chinese VI (Streamlined)
An advanced Mandarin course from MIT OpenCourseWare, continuing the sequence started in Chinese V. Students build sophisticated conversational, reading and writing skills through authentic readings and audio-visual materials drawn from Chinese-speaking societies, along with their own research using library, media and web resources available at MIT and in the Boston area. The class introduces distinctive features of Chinese culture and customs, and sessions combine readings, discussion, student presentations and guided exploration of online material. Instruction and class discussion are conducted entirely in Mandarin, pushing students toward near-fluent classroom communication. As an OCW offering, the site provides the syllabus, readings and assignments used in the MIT classroom, though there is no instructor interaction or certificate. It suits learners who have completed the earlier Streamlined Chinese sequence and want continued immersion in advanced Mandarin.
